Root canal prices in Mexico need to be read alongside the cost of restoring the tooth. A headline price may cover the root canal alone. Ask whether you also need a buildup, post, filling or crown and how those services are priced.
If you have severe pain, swelling or a suspected abscess, get assessed locally before planning a trip. A suspected abscess needs urgent dental attention. Difficulty breathing or swallowing, or severe swelling, needs emergency care. The NHS dental abscess guidance describes these warning signs. Contact local emergency services when needed; do not wait for our form or a clinic quotation.

We have not independently verified these clinics’ clinical quality or confirmed current availability. Ask the provider for a dated estimate for your tooth and treatment.
Adding My Baja Dental’s advertised root canal and crown items gives $700–$900. That arithmetic does not establish whether imaging, a buildup, medication, other fees or travel are included. Dental del Rio lists retreatment separately; a first-time root canal price should not be assumed to cover retreatment.
We do not have a confirmed Cancún root canal quote to publish. A Tijuana or Los Algodones advertisement cannot establish a price or appointment schedule for a Cancún clinic.
What a complete quote should show
Ask the clinic to identify the tooth and whether the proposal is for initial treatment or retreatment. Then request these items separately:
- Examination and diagnostic imaging.
- Root canal treatment and any specialist fee.
- Temporary restoration, buildup or post if recommended.
- Final filling or crown, including its material.
- Any medication, additional appointment or adjustment fees.
- Follow-up arrangements and the cost of care if symptoms return.
The American Association of Endodontists explains that price depends on the tooth and complexity; molars usually cost more. Its guidance describes restoring the tooth with a crown or filling after treatment. Ask your dentist which restoration is appropriate for you.
How long would the trip take?
The AAE says root canal treatment can usually be completed in one or two appointments, depending on the tooth and circumstances. That describes endodontic treatment, not a guaranteed travel itinerary.
Have the clinic schedule the diagnosis, treatment, any restoration and final checks. Ask who will provide each service and what happens if the dentist changes the plan after examination. Confirm when you can travel with the clinician treating you.
If you need a crown, ask when it will be made and fitted, whether another visit is required and who handles an adjustment after you go home. Use our trip-planning checklist to record the confirmed appointments.
Is travel worth the difference?
Compare your local out-of-pocket estimate with the complete Mexico budget. Include insurance benefits only after your insurer confirms them. Add transport, accommodation, missed work and any follow-up allowance to the Mexico estimate.
For one tooth, those costs may use up the apparent saving. Driving to a nearby border clinic and flying to Cancún create different budgets. Enter your own figures in the dental trip cost calculator before making a booking.
Ask for copies of treatment notes and imaging and a named contact for follow-up. The CDC’s medical tourism guidance discusses planning for care after returning home and obtaining medical records.
For planned care, request help comparing your quote. We can organize the fees and travel questions; a dentist must diagnose the tooth, recommend treatment and advise on timing. MxSmiles is free for patients and may receive a referral fee if you choose a partner clinic.
